Premier Andrew Furey says he is sending thoughts and prayers to the people of Baltimore following the catastrophic collapse of the Francis Scott Key Bridge, which he calls a “devastating tragedy.”
A container ship hit the major bridge early this morning.
Videos shared on social media show the large boat hitting one of the bridge’s supports. The bridge then breaks apart in pieces and falls into the water.
Emergency crews, including the United States Coast Guard, are on the scene looking for survivors.
Furey says he spent time at the Shock Trauma Centre in the city, which led to “lasting friendships.”
He says he is thinking of those people today.
My thoughts and prayers are with my friends, former colleagues and the people of Baltimore today as they deal with a devastating tragedy. My time at the Shock Trauma Center led to lasting friendships and I am thinking of those people today. pic.twitter.com/5AiD04cH9S
