The provincial government has spelled out how some of the money set aside for Year of the Arts initiatives in this year’s budget will be used.
Tourism, Culture, Arts, and Recreation Minister Steve Crocker made the announcement to a packed room at the Newfoundland and Labrador Craft Council this morning.
Government is putting $2-million towards the establishment of an Arts Infrastructure and Programming Fund. It will be used to support upgrades to existing infrastructure, and the development and enhancement of community arts programming.
As well, $3-million is going toward expressions of interest for a new Creative Arts Fund. The money will be distributed through Celebrate NL, and will be given to organizations that have the creation and/or presentation of works of art as their primary activity.
Funding was also announced for numerous other arts organizations such as Music NL and the Craft Council of Newfoundland and Labrador.
