Fryers will be running steady at restaurants today as orders pile in for a traditional Good Friday feed of fish n chips.
Kathy Barbour, Vice President of Ches’s Fish n Chips, says extra staff have been called in to keep up with the hundreds of orders, including those no longer employed at the restaurant.
“It’s a lot of fun,” Barbour says. Staff will bring a spread of food and treats in to share throughout the day, but by the end, they are all beat out.
She believes eating fish on Good Friday has become a tradition beyond the religious practice.
Barbour says the feed is still rooted in religion for some, and they do see a surge in orders after mass, but many families just make it a ritual for every Good Friday.
