The Eastern Regional Service Board will no longer collect garbage from improper receptacles.
The board says using household items like refrigerators or chest freezers as garbage boxes is hazardous as children and animals can become trapped inside them.
Going forward, a notice will be left and waste in such items will not be picked up.
Anyone who is looking to put their old fridge or freezer out for garbage pick-up will also have to remove the doors and latches as a safety precaution.
