The provincial government has collected nearly $17 million in sugar tax since it was first introduced.
Information posted to government’s Access to Information site indicates that between September 1, 2022, and February 20 of this year just over $16.8 million was collected.
As for where the money is going, government points to an infographic released with the 2022 budget showing that the money is being allotted for Kids Eat Smart, pre-natal infant nutrition supplement, and the physical activity tax credit.
