Construction continues on the Pitts Memorial overpass that leads in and out of downtown St. John’s.

The westbound lanes were closed earlier this week due to road damage and resulting safety concerns.

The lanes reopened on Tuesday, but not before causing near gridlock on Waterford Bridge and Topsail roads as drivers sought alternate routes.

Traffic is now being diverted into one of the two eastbound lanes as repairs continue westbound.

Once that work is done, the eastbound lanes will be closed and that traffic will be diverted to one of the westbound lanes.
