Politicians will be greeted by a familiar sight as they return for the reopening of the House of Assembly on Monday.
Fish harvesters, whose protests forced postponement of the provincial budget for a day last month, are planning a return to Confederation Building at 7 a.m. Monday morning as the dispute over the crab fishery continues.
That’s despite a four-pronged agreement between the FFAW and the provincial government covering numerous aspects of the fishery, including the establishment of so-called free enterprise and allowing outside buyers.
Protest organizer and harvester John Efford says he hopes it will be a peaceful demonstration.
“We want to be seen, we want to be heard, and we do not want anybody getting hurt,” he told VOCM Open with Paddy Daly. “But in saying that, I don’t know how you’re going to control the frustration level of people.
“We want the numbers, and we want it to be peaceful, so ASP (Association of Seafood Producers) and the government can see the number of people who are affected.”
