Riverside Drive in Corner Brook remains closed as a geotechnical company has been called in to help with assessment, cleanup and remediation following a landslide last week.
Huge amounts of earth, rocks, trees and debris slid from the surrounding hills onto the road, pushing one vehicle into the water and blocking off the road on the night of April 1. Miraculously, there were no serious injuries.
The city immediately closed the road to assess the situation and surrounding hills.
Stantec Engineering has been hired by the city to survey the area and evaluate the stability of the hill. The company’s assessment will then help the city to plan to safely clear, and reopen the road.
