The Mayor of Stephenville is pleased now that the hydrogen development proposed for the region has received the environmental green light.
The project includes the erection of 150 wind turbines necessary to power an ammonia plant in Stephenville to produce hydrogen for export to Germany.
Tom Rose says the project could represent the largest private investment in Atlantic Canada. “Muskrat Falls was on the backs of the taxpayers of Newfoundland and Labrador,” says Rose.
Rose also dismissed concerns raised about the footprint of the giant turbines.
He says the pad the turbines are built on are about the same as the footprint left by a 1,600 square foot home. “It’s like building 150 homes on the Port au Port Peninsula.”
