The Mayor of Fogo Island is looking for an extension to the local hospital.
Andrew Shea says not only does the facility serve the needs of local residents, it also serves as a teaching hospital and, he says, the premier has agreed that an extension is necessary.
He says the hospital includes long-term care rooms, but no place in which patients can eat, so an extension is necessary for that purpose.
He says the facility is a teaching hospital with a number of students there now, and two medical students coming in August to work with local doctors, “but we don’t have room for them.”
