The head of an organization assisting the homeless population in the capital city calls the 2024 budget the “most comprehensive” yet when it comes to housing.
The Liberals spent the past few weeks hashing out a number of pre-budget announcements on housing across the country. Of those announcements were plans to build nearly 3.9 million new homes by 2031, along with spending $250 million over two years to address tent encampments and lack of shelter space.
Doug Pawson of End Homelessness St. John’s says it’s the most Ottawa has spent on housing in decades, but he does question how that money will be spread out.
In this province, says Pawson, we lack the capacity to build as fast as other provinces. Given that, he wants to know how government will ensure everyone gets a fair share.
