Two men have died after a fishing vessel capsized near Lark Harbour on the province’s west coast on Sunday.
Long Range Mountains MP Gudie Hutchings confirmed the deaths in a post to X this evening, saying she is “devasted to hear two young men have perished at sea.”
A spokesperson for the Joint Rescue Coordination Centre in Halifax says they received a call around 11 a.m. this morning to reports of persons in the water near Molly Ann Cove.
A Cormorant helicopter from Gander’s 103 Search and Rescue Squad airlifted four people from the shore to a location where first responders were able to take over.
The Canadian Coast Guard is leading the investigation and there is no word on the condition of the surviving crew.
The Town of Lark Harbour opened its doors on Sunday evening for residents in need of support. The town will also be offering grief counselling to residents in need as the small community copes with the tragedy.
