An investigation is underway into a fishing tragedy which claimed the lives of two young men off the province’s west coast yesterday. Their bodies have been recovered.
The Joint Rescue Coordination Centre in Halifax received calls around 11:00 yesterday morning that two people were in the water near Molly Ann Cove just south of Lark Harbour after a boat capsized.
A Cormorant from 103 Search and Rescue Squadron airlifted four people from the shore to a location where first responders were able to take over. The survivors are said to be in good condition.
The Canadian Coast Guard is now leading the investigation into the sinking of the Miss Jenny, a 23-foot open boat.
The FFAW is extending its sincere condolences to the families and to the people of Lark Harbour and York Harbour on the loss of two lives who “were far too young to go.”
The Town of Lark Harbour opened its doors to residents last evening to provide a place for people to gather. The town will also offer grief counselling to residents over the days ahead.
