Condolences are pouring in on the passing of Innu Elder and outspoken advocate, David Nuke.
Nuke is being remembered for standing by his convictions and, says Nunatsiavut President Johannes Lampe, he “fought tirelessly to protect the rights of the Labrador Innu.”
Nuke, who was front and center during protests against the Muskrat Falls project, passed away on Sunday at the age of 64.
MHA Perry Trimper says Labrador lost a strong leader and he lost “a good friend.” He calls Nuke the “definition of tough” recalling a time when Nuke, clad in a jean jacket, snowmobiled up to a group of miners at Voisey’s Bay in freezing conditions, and offered them his gloves to keep them warm.
The funeral will take place on Wednesday at the Sheshatshiu Innu School gym at 12 noon.
