Provincial officials are still conducting an assessment of the damage caused by a fire on board the Flanders last week—but the vessel will require months of repair work before she’s back in service.
Minister of Transportation, John Abbott, says that means the Beaumont Hamel has been pulled over to the Bell Island run alongside the Legionnaire.
Abbott says damage was significant.
“The initial word I’m getting is that there is severe damage, and we’re talking many months probably for repair.”
Meanwhile, on the Fogo Island-Change Islands run, the Kamutik W will remain in service there, on lease from Woodward’s, for the next few weeks while they source another vessel to take over when she goes into regular maintenance.
