Newfoundland and Labrador Premier Andrew Furey has offered assistance to British Columbia and Alberta as both provinces battle wildfires.
The early start to the country’s wildfire season has forced evacuation orders in both provinces.
Furey referenced NL’s strong connections to Fort MacMurray as thousands of residents are leaving town. It’s bringing back unpleasant memories of the 2016 wildfire.
Premier Furey says he has been in touch with Alberta Premier Danielle Smith and BC Premier David Eby to offer any help that is needed.
In Newfoundland and Labrador we’re thinking of our friends in BC and Alberta as they tackle wildfires, especially with our strong connections to Fort Mac. I have spoken with Premiers @Dave_Eby and @ABDanielleSmith to offer any help we can provide in these challenging times.
