Residents of Fort McMurray, Alta. have been told they care return to their homes.
Officials have lifted the evacuation order that was in place for several neighbourhoods, affecting almost 7,000 residents.
Rainy weather over the past couple of days helped douse the fires, giving crews an opportunity to gain the upper hand.
The municipality says local highways are open in both directions and emergency social services, including food and accommodations, will remain available until noon on Sunday.
Meanwhile, two wildfires in British Columbia continue to threaten the northeastern town of Fort Nelson, which remains under an evacuation order.
Those two blazes spanned a combined size of almost 900 square kilometres as of Saturday morning.
