Today marks the 40th anniversary of the founding of Heritage NL and a number of events are planned to celebrate the occasion.
Heritage NL Chair, Dr. Lisa Daly is encouraging people to keep an eye on their social media feeds for an inventory of some of the work they’ve done over the last 40 years in helping to preserve the province’s unique historic and cultural features.
That includes the designation of more than 340 Registered Heritage Structures, and six Registered Heritage Districts.
As an example of what Heritage NL does outside of preserving built heritage, a special event is planned next Sunday, May 26th at O’Brien’s Farm in St. John’s, showcasing some of the province’s traditions related to wool and raising sheep.
“We’re going to have knitters and carders and sheep shearing and pretty much every step along the way to get from a wooly sheep to a knit sock.”
