The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary is reminding drivers of the province’s move over law during the long weekend.
Police officers in the province will be out in droves for enforcement activities as many take to the highways to celebrate the May 24th weekend.
It is the law in Newfoundland and Labrador that when police and other emergency vehicles are pulled over to the side of the road with lights flashing, that approaching vehicles move over into the next lane and slow their speeds, or stop entirely if necessary.
RNC Constable James Cadigan says that includes all types of emergency vehicles, including tow trucks.
He says it is important to give first responders space to conduct their business, and it helps ensure the safety of all.
