May is skin cancer awareness month and an advocacy group is reiterating some sun safety tips heading into the summer months.
In 2022, over 80,000 people were diagnosed with a form of skin cancer—something that is linked to spending too much time in the sun without any protection.
The Save Your Skin Foundation says as tempting as it is, people should limit their time in direct sunlight by staying in the shade and covering your skin with long sleeves and a hat.
Sunscreen should be applied a half hour before soaking up any rays, specifically one that has an SPF of 30. After a couple hours outside or after swimming, a layer of sunblock should be reapplied.
More tips on how to protect against skin cancers can be found on the organization’s website.
