There are changes coming into effect tomorrow for those needing an ambulance in the Corner Brook area.
Beginning May 22, emergency ambulance services will be arranged through the Provincial Medical Communications Centre instead of by the Western Memorial Regional Hospital.
That means those who would have previously called the hospital in a medical emergency must now call 911.
Calling 911 in an emergency situation will now connect patients with a medical communications officer who will assist the caller on what to do until paramedics arrive.
NL Health Services say 911 is an easier number to remember in an emergency and will be the fastest way to receive help.
The health authority says it is continuing to work with communities to encourage the use of 911 instead of using local numbers for emergency services.
