Changes are finally coming to the province’s ambulance services.
The government last year announced a plan to consolidate the mix of public, private and volunteer ambulance services into one entity.
As of June 1, all ambulance services across the province will be operated by the provincial health authority, NL Health Services.
That means all 911 calls for an ambulance will be answered through the provincial medical communications centre.
As a result, all previous local numbers that were used to call an ambulance will be discontinued.
Those who do dial the local seven-digit number for emergency ambulance services will be directed to call 911, which will be the go-to for all ambulance calls in the province as of June 1.
