Security and supports surrounding transitional housing being set up at the old Airport Comfort Inn dominated discussion in the House of Assembly yesterday.
Housing Minister Fred Hutton fielded a number of questions surrounding the services supplied at the new facility from Opposition Leader Tony Wakeham.
Hutton says the ramp-up to full services continues, and while they will have a capacity for about 100 residents, he was unable to provide specific timelines, or how long residents will be staying at the facility.
He says End Homelessness St. John’s is working on a phased-in approach, and they’re anticipating more people will be taken in in the coming weeks. Some residents could be staying there for a few months, and some may stay there a little while longer.
Meanwhile, Opposition Leader Tony Wakeham says area residents are concerned about security at the new facility.
Minister Hutton says a security company has been hired to ensure that people coming and going, including staff and visitors are registered.
