PC Leader Tony Wakeham says the results of the Baie Verte-Green Bay by-election signal that people in the province are looking for change.
PC Candidate Lin Paddock won the district in a landslide—winning over 4,200 votes. The Liberals would secure just over 1,000, while the NDP did not hit 100.
Wakeham says there are crises in health care and education, the cost of living has soared, and the fishery hasn’t started on time in two years and when all of those things come together there is a “clear message” that people want a new direction.
Premier Andrew Furey notes that it wasn’t the result they wanted, but they knew that the area was traditionally a PC stronghold.
He says they have some work to do in the district, and he is “intent” on listening to people’s voices to regain their trust and confidence.
