Metro-area high school students got an up-close and hands-on look at the local aviation industry today.
Thirty high school students from throughout the capital city region were treated to an information session and a tour of St. John’s International Airport thanks to Elevate Aviation, an organization that provides programming across the country.
Today’s learning opportunity is part of a broader effort aimed at inspiring women and underrepresented communities to join the aviation industry.
Charlene Beazley, First Officer with PAL Airlines, spoke to the group about her journey to becoming a pilot.
“Obviously, it’s a glamorous job to get in an airplane and fly every day, but I feel it’s crucial to inform students about what’s behind operating an aircraft.”
The group spent the morning hearing from various professionals working in the field. They were also treated to a tour of the control tower.
