There’s been another so-called near miss in the province’s offshore oil industry.
It happened last Sunday, May 26, on the Hibernia platform.
Officials say a piece of equipment weighing about 600 pounds fell about 16 feet to the drill floor
They say the section of pipe was dropped as it was being moved from a vertical to a horizontal position.
The province’s offshore regulator, the C-NLOPB, says no one was within the safety/exclusion area at the time of the incident and no one was hurt.
But they say given the weight of the pipe and the distance it fell, it could’ve killed someone.
The operator of the Hibernia oilfield, Hibernia Management Development Company, has launched an investigation, which is being overseen by the regulator.
