The minister overseeing the renovation of the National War Memorial in St. John’s says the work will be completed before July 1st.
Infrastructure Minister John Abbott gave that assurance this week, saying the project remains on schedule.
That’s despite the continued presence of construction equipment and other evidence of unfinished business at the site with a month to go before Memorial Day.
Abbott says not to worry, insisting people will start to notice rapid changes in the coming days.
“There’s a plan for literally every hour, every day now between now and June 30th, to make sure everything is in place,” he said.
The National War Memorial, which marks its 100th anniversary this year, is being reconstructed to accommodate this province’s own Tomb of the Unknown Soldier.
The remains of that soldier were returned from the World War I battlefields of northern France last weekend.
