Starting today, no matter where you live in the province, if you need an ambulance, you have to call 911.
The province’s road and air ambulance service, previously a mix of private, public and volunteer services, has been integrated into a single service under NL Health Services.
Health Minister Tom Osborne says the system brings workers and services under road and air ambulance services under a single umbrella.
He says previously, with seven air ambulance providers and more than 60 private and community operators, “we had a very fragmented system.” He says bringing them together helps to modernize the system and improve wait times.
