The NL Paramedic Association says having all services under one system will allow for supply to meet demand.
All road ambulance providers became one over the weekend. The system is managed by NL Health Services and can only be reached by dialing 911.
President Rodney Gaudet says the move is helpful in addressing some gaps as the health authority will be able to direct operators outside a certain region to an area experiencing high demand.
As an example, if things got busy in Gander, ambulances from areas like Twillingate could move in on a short-term basis to help. Once things begin to settle down, the providers go back to the community they’re based out of.
