A day many thought they’d never see has come and gone on the province’s west coast.
The new Western Memorial Regional Hospital in Corner Brook is now officially open, with patient transfers taking place yesterday.
Anyone needing care is asked to proceed to the new hospital, situated on the outskirts of the city, just past the university.
Corner Brook mayor Jim Parsons says the new Western Memorial was much needed and worth the wait.
Parsons says the old hospital was dated and didn’t have the capacity to keep up with the area’s health care needs.
The new spot, he says, offers a number of improved services for people needing treatments like dialysis or cancer care. There’s also an increased level of privacy, as rooms shared among four patients will no longer exist.
