Colourful crosswalks are freshly painted and rainbow flags are flying across the province this month in recognition of Pride Month.
The month of June has been dedicated to bringing awareness to the 2SLGBTQQIA+ community.
Municipalities across Newfoundland and Labrador are marking the occasion with flag raising ceremonies in addition to an event held by the provincial government on Friday where the rainbow banner was hoisted.
Author and activist Rhea Rollmann says support for queer and gender-diverse people has improved over the years but there is still work to be done.
She says improvements are needed to expand things like gender-affirming health care to people across the province, especially in rural Newfoundland and Labrador.
