The province’s tourism industry has lost one of its most stalwart supporters.
Roger Jamieson, the founder of Kilmory Resort in Swift Current, passed away on Saturday at the age of 66.
Jamieson formed one of the province’s first major tourism developments three decades ago.
The Chair of Hospitality NL, Deborah Bourden, says Jamieson was generous with his advice and mentorship, and his presence will be sorely missed.
“That’s why I think he was so appreciated across this country,” says Bourden. “He always came to the table wanting to give his best; he came to the table so willing to learn and to help, and to be a mentor.”
Bourden says Jamieson could impart his experience and wisdom in a way that people were willing to receive. Premier Andrew Furey and Tourism Minister Steve Crocker call Jamieson a friend and valued contributor to the tourism and hospitality industry.
Jamieson won numerous awards over the years including Hospitality NL’s Accommodation of the Year award in 2022.
He was also appointed to the Canadian Tourism Commission Board of Directors, he served as Chair and CEO of Marble Mountain for seven years, won the Doug Wheeler and Golden Umbrella Award in 2005 making him the only person to receive both honours in a single year.
