Charges of aggravated assault have been upgraded to attempted murder in connection with a stabbing back in December in St. John’s.
Police say a woman was stabbed several times in the area of Rickett’s Road and St. Clare’s Hospital on December 13th — a Wednesday.
She has since been released from hospital and continues to recover from her injuries.
Thirty-six-year-old William John Oliver was arrested and originally charged with aggravated assault, as well as possessing a weapon for a dangerous purpose, theft under $5,000, damaging property and breaching probation and release conditions.
But police say the investigation to date has yielded more information to support upgrading the aggravated assault charge to attempted murder.
Oliver remains in custody awaiting his next court appearance on June 21.
