Happy City St. John’s is hosting a number of Jane’s Walks in the coming weeks to give residents and visitors alike an on the ground and unique perspective on city history and locales.
Elizabeth Oliver says the Jane’s Walks were inspired by Jane Jacob, an urban activist and theorist whose writings and theories on the urban environment have been transformative for many municipalities.
The walks are held in cities throughout North America, typically to mark Jacobs’ birthday.
“They are led by volunteers, they’re free, they’re pretty casual and Happy City has been doing them in St. John’s for about six years.”
A number of Jane’s Walks are scheduled this month, including this weekend.
