The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary’s expansion on the west coast is expected to be complete by the end of the month.
The expansion was announced by Justice Minister John Hogan last year.
The first phase of the initiative was completed on February 1 with the RNC expanding into Massey Drive and Mount Moriah.
As of the end of the month, the Constabulary will have jurisdiction over Cox’s Cove, Gilliams, Humber Arm South, Hughes Brook, Irishtown-Summerside, Lark Harbour, Little Rapids, McIvers, Meadows, Pasadena, Steady Brook and York Harbour.
All residents who have ongoing files with the RCMP will continue to deal with that police force until the file is concluded, unless otherwise notified.
The RCMP will be maintaining a presence in the communities through the continuation of the Corner Brook detachment for specialized and federal policing services, as well as the RNC/RCMP Joint Forces Operation West.
