Parts of the island are in for a scorcher today and tomorrow with heat warnings in effect for central, northeast, Terra Nova and parts of the west coast.
The mercury will shoot up into the high twenties and low thirties, but it will feel like near 40 degrees with the humidex.
Environment Canada meteorologist Veronica Sullivan says the sweltering temperatures are related to the heat dome coveting the mainland, but it will not have the same impact on this province.
A heat dome is an ongoing wave of high temperatures, but that won’t be the case in NL. The heat will plague parts of the island for two days, but then temps drop back down to the mid teens and low twenties on Friday.
Meanwhile, the Department of Health is reminding residents who plan to spend any time out in the heat to do so carefully.
Time spent out in the sun should be limited, especially when temperatures hit their peak.
People should lather on the sunscreen, wear a hat and loose clothing if they plan to head outside and stay hydrated throughout the day.
Officials also recommend checking in on those who may be vulnerable to the extreme heat.
There are some high temperatures in the forecast for some parts of the province.
