The Department of Justice and Public Safety is investigating what led to an inmate breaking loose at the corrections centre in Stephenville last week.
Thirty-one-year-old Tyler Bennett escaped from the facility Friday evening and has been on the lam ever since.
Bennett had been in custody following his arrest late last month in connection with a rash of break-in’s within the Bay St. George region.
Justice officials cannot say how he managed to escape, but say an investigation is underway into the matter, which includes a review of the policies and procedures at the centre.
RCMP are continuing their search for Bennett who is five feet, eight inches tall, weighs 160 pounds, and has tattoos on his face and body.
Any sightings should be reported to police.
