A young girl who overcame her own battle with cancer is encouraging folks to roll up their sleeves and donate during an upcoming blood drive.
Staci Gale’s daughter Abigale was diagnosed with Leukemia when she was five years old and required several transfusions of blood and platelets over the course of nearly three years.
Gale says there is a great need for donors.
“It takes eight people to help one child with Leukemia.”
She says her daughter is now thriving, but is focused on giving back to others who are sick and in need of lifesaving treatments.
A special blood drive is taking place this Friday to coincide with Abigale’s 10th birthday.
Every year, they hold a blood drive for Abi’s birthday and they encourage people to spread the word and share photos of them giving blood. This Friday, Abi will be at the collection centre on Wicklow Street to hand out cake to those donating.
Anyone interested in donating can book an appointment online at blood dot ca or by calling 1 888 2 DONATE.
