Now that school is out and students are free to enjoy the summer, the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary is asking the public to do their part to make this summer a safe and enjoyable one.
Police are sharing safety tips for drivers—reduce speeds in residential areas, especially around playgrounds or areas where children frequently gather, and pay attention to children walking or riding bicycles near roadways.
It’s also important to keep personal safety top of mind. Police are telling parents and guardians to remind their children not to speak with strangers, enter the house or car of a stranger, and never to let someone they don’t know inside their home. Children should also know their full name, home address and a parent or guardian’s phone number.
RNC encourage parents to monitor and understand their child’s online safety, and ensure that kids understand the risks of sharing images—particularly intimate images—online.
