The Lawtons Distribution Centre located in Donovans Industrial Park is closing.

In a statement to VOCM News, parent company Sobeys says they announced the closure of the facility—which supplies Lawtons locations, on June 17.

They say they are transitioning to their larger facilities, one of which is the nearby Sobeys warehouse in St. John’s, and the other in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia.

They argue the decision will allow them to serve their communities more efficiently, and the decision was not taken lightly.

They say they will be working with affected employees over the coming weeks to support them through the transition.

They did not say how many workers are affected.
