It is a disappointing turn of events with the mishap which left Princess Anne with minor injuries, but those associated with the repatriation of the Unknown Soldier say the most important thing is that Her Royal Highness makes a full recovery.
The Colonel-in-Chief of the Royal Newfoundland Regiment had been scheduled to be in St. John’s on Monday for Memorial Day at the National War Memorial downtown, but the injuries have resulted in the cancellation of the Canadian tour.
Gary Browne of the Royal Canadian Legion told the Tim Powers Show on VOCM that everything is still on track including public viewing as the Unknown Soldier will be lying in state at Confederation Building in the days leading up to July 1st.
“I’m sure her Regiment is disappointed that she cannot be here for the 100th anniversary, but we will “soldier” on and get ready for this wonderful event on July 1st.”
