A west coast man who spent a week on the run after escaping from jail was back before a judge this morning—this time related to robberies in St. John’s.
Thirty-one-year-old Tyler Bennett was recaptured Friday night, but RCMP have yet to say how that went down, or how he escaped in the first place.
They did say they had concerns for a woman he might’ve been with while on the run, Pam Crocker. Turns out, they’re no strangers to each other—both charged with gas station holdups in St. John’s last year, with a five-day trial set for October.

Bennett, meanwhile, faces a raft of separate, serious charges on the west coast, including the escape from custody in Stephenville, as well as being disguised during multiple break-ins, assault, obstructing police, possessing of dangerous weapons, and overcoming resistance to commit an offence.
Bennett appeared by phone this morning from the detention centre in Corner Brook in a feisty mood, while expressing frustration over failed attempts to contact legal aid.
Of course, that’s largely due to the fact that no one could reach him while he was on the lam.
Bennett is due back in Stephenville court on July 3, and in St. John’s on July 10.
