NL Hydro is still working to restore power to all customers in Labrador West.
They’re asking people who do have power—most of Labrador City—to reduce the load on the system by using less power than they normally would.
Wabush will remain without power as Hydro is trying to find an alternate supply.
Hydro says if the supply from Churchill Falls is interrupted, they can serve customers from Muskrat Falls and/or the gas turbine in Happy Valley-Goose Bay.
Lab West MHA Jordan Brown told Your VOCM Mornings that an emergency line from Fermont, Quebec is able to supply most of Lab City, but Wabush could not be connected.
He says some of the larger businesses could not be hooked up while the mining operations have their own backup supply. Wabush went the night without electricity. He say there is also a forest fire moving toward the twin towns.
Bell Aliant says some customers may experience issues with wireless and wireline services. And Environment Canada monitoring equipment in Churchill Falls is being affected.
