Teachers and others in the education system woke up this morning to find no extra money in the bank on what was supposed to be payday.
Calls and emails started coming in to the VOCM Newsroom early this morning from NL Schools staff who said they hadn’t received their paycheque.
NLTA president Trent Langdon says they’ve been told the payment failure is because a file was not uploaded.
He says the issue is impacting all staff and they’re quite ticked off about it.
“My question is ‘I wonder did the ministers get paid today?’ But another piece of this is this seemed to be a simple loading of a file that didn’t occur overnight that was supposed to happen, and it didn’t happen.”
In a statement to VOCM News, the Treasury Board says the payment failure was caused by an unusual and serious problem with the payroll system.
Government says some payments have been sent out and they are working to have the issue fully resolved.
An investigation into what caused the mishap is underway.
