A 40-year-old man is facing multiple charges following a crime spree involving three stolen vehicles.
The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary were first notified of a stolen vehicle in Lab City on June 18.
Suspect Corey Benoit was located inside the vehicle two days later by Forteau RCMP at the Blanc Sablon Ferry Terminal. Two firearms and five swords were found in the vehicle.
Benoit was later released from custody with a future court date.
The next day, Benoit was arrested again by Rocky Harbor RCMP following the theft of a vehicle in St. Barbe. He once again appeared in court and was released on conditions on June 22.
Sometime between Sunday evening and Monday morning, a third vehicle was stolen, this time from a home in Port Saunders. Then on Tuesday, there was a “dine and dash” at White Bay Convenience on the TCH.
Police accuse Benoit of fleeing from the business and into the woods. The stolen vehicle from the day prior was found in the parking lot—out of gas.
Benoit, who was later found by police dog Thor, was taken into custody on a raft of charges, including three counts of theft of a motor vehicle, possession of property obtained by crime, and careless use of a firearm. Police say more charges are possible.
Benoit will appear in court in Corner Brook today, and in Wabush August 20.
