MP Ken McDonald will not be running in the next federal election.
McDonald broke the news on the Tim Powers Show on VOCM this afternoon.
“Before the House adjourned in June, I met with the Prime Minister on June 17 and I actually told him at that point that my name will not be on the next federal election ballot.”
McDonald garnered attention over the last year for going against the Liberal Party and opposing the federal carbon tax.
However, when asked about why he is deciding to step away, the MP cites being away from home and missing time with his grandchildren as the main reason.
If he stays on until the end of his term next year, that will be 10 years of going back and forth to Ottawa, which he says is enough for him. Meanwhile, McDonald reveals there has been talk about him running provincially, but he has made no commitments.
