A community on the Avalon Peninsula is upset after a piece of history was stolen from in front of St. Andrews United Church Friday night.
The church bell was rung for the first time by Rev. T.W. Atkinson on Sunday, August 25, 1912.
Previously, Methodist services in Whiteway were either held in the school that opened in the early 1800s or, in the case of Christmas and Easter, the Green’s Harbour Church. The Methodist church was replaced by The St. Andrews United Church in October, 1977. The bell was saved, and eventually placed on a covered pedestal built by local residents.
Burgess Heritage Property is asking anyone with information to pass it on through a private message on their Facebook page.
