Three people were lucky to get out of their smoke-filled home on the Southern Shore this morning as dawn was breaking.
The Ferryland Fire Department rushed to the two-storey salt box structure at about 5 a.m. Fire Chief Algys Windsor says the house was fully engulfed when they arrived. There is nothing left but ashes.
Located on the main road in Ferryland, the house was believed to be close to 100 years old.
Chief Windsor says compounding the situation was insufficient pressure in the water lines. They had to truck water in from about a mile away.
He says two men. who are brothers, and their sister emerged unscathed.
The cause is under investigation by the RCMP.
