The Town of Holyrood, often referred to as the squid capital of Canada, is gearing up for its annual Squidfest,
Coun. Mabel Tilley says the town’s connection to the species goes back years to when the harbor would be teeming with the creatures and they’d roll on the beach.
She says while that doesn’t happen so much today, moreso with capelin, the town continues with the Squidfest theme.
Tilley says the event, which is in its 35th year, is a big one for the town with numerous events including family fun days, pool parties and activities geared toward seniors and kids.
The highlight of the festival remains the beach party on July 20th, which this year includes Shanneyganock, the Navigators, Bic and the Ballpoints, Kitchinparti, and Rock Revival.
This year’s event runs from July 17-21.
