A teenager from St. John’s is embarking on a lengthy hiking trip today in support of the Community Food Sharing Association.
Sixteen-year-old Cass Parsons of St. John’s is endeavoring to hike all 336 kms of the East Coast Trail to raise money to battle food insecurity.
He plans to start at Topsail Beach.
Parsons says the goal is to raise $3,360—or $10 per kilometer.
He says the initiative was inspired by other similar trips he has gone on.
He says he has realized the importance of healthy and reliable food, which is something a lot of people don’t have access to, so he wants to bring aware to the issue.
The trek is expected to take about two weeks. More information on how to donate can be found online.
